How to Set Up Viking IPTV on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV

Apple devices are the simplest to set up because there is only one place to get apps: the App Store. Many players are universal purchases, so one download covers your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and some sync your login between them over iCloud.

Time needed
About 5 minutes
Works on
iPhone, iPad, Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K
Login type
Xtream Codes (or M3U link)

What you need

  • An Apple ID signed in to the App Store
  • Your Viking IPTV login: server URL, username and password
  • A reasonably current iOS, iPadOS or tvOS version — players drop old versions quickly
  • For Apple TV: an Ethernet cable if your model has a port

Step-by-step setup

  1. 1

Install a player from the App Store

Search the App Store for an IPTV player that lists Xtream Codes support. Check whether it is a universal app if you also want it on Apple TV, and read what the free version includes before paying for an upgrade.

  2. 2

Add a playlist with your login

In the player, add a new playlist or provider, select Xtream Codes, and enter the server URL, username and password. Tip: type the details on your iPhone and let iCloud sync or the Apple TV keyboard prompt carry them to the TV.

  3. 3

Allow the first load to finish

Keep the app open while it downloads channels, films, series and the guide. iOS suspends background downloads when you switch away.

  4. 4

Set the guide and playback options

Check the guide's time zone, choose your preferred audio and subtitle languages, and on Apple TV enable Match Content (below).

  5. 5

    Test on each device

Open the same channel on each device in turn rather than all at once, so that you do not hit your plan's connection limit while testing.

Common problems on this device

The issues specific to this platform, and how to get past them.

There is no sideloading shortcut

Guides that tell you to install a profile or an unsigned app on an iPhone are best ignored. Stick with App Store players; there are plenty.

AirPlay uses the phone as the source

When you AirPlay from an iPhone the stream usually keeps running through the phone. For long viewing on a TV, a native Apple TV app is steadier and frees your phone.

Insecure server addresses

Apple's App Transport Security prefers https. Good players handle http addresses correctly, but if a login fails only on Apple devices, check you typed http or https exactly as supplied.

Settings worth changing

Match Content on Apple TV

Settings → Video and Audio → Match Content → turn on Match Frame Rate (and Match Dynamic Range if you prefer). This plays 50 Hz and 60 Hz channels at their native rate.

Low Data Mode on iPhone

If you watch on mobile data, Settings → Mobile Data → Data Mode helps limit usage, and most players let you prefer a lower-quality stream.

Questions about this device

Is there a Viking IPTV app in the App Store?

You watch through an independent IPTV player app, not a dedicated one. Any App Store player that accepts Xtream Codes or M3U logins will work with your details.

Will it work on an older Apple TV?

Apple TV HD and all Apple TV 4K models run tvOS and have the App Store. The 3rd-generation Apple TV and earlier cannot install apps, though they can receive AirPlay.

Can I watch on a Mac?

Yes. Several iPad players run on Apple-silicon Macs, and VLC opens an M3U link directly. See the computer section of the installation hub.
