How to Set Up Viking IPTV on a Firestick
The Fire TV Stick is the most common way to watch IPTV on a television: it is inexpensive, plugs into any HDMI port and has a remote built for channel surfing. This guide covers every Fire TV model, including the newer ones that no longer run Android apps.
- Time needed
- About 10 minutes
- Works on
- Fire TV Stick, Stick 4K / 4K Max, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV sets
- Login type
- Xtream Codes (or M3U link)
What you need
- A Fire TV device signed in to an Amazon account
- Your Viking IPTV login: server URL, username and password
- At least 1 GB of free storage (Settings → My Fire TV → Storage)
- A 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection, or Amazon's Ethernet adapter for a wired link
No login yet? See the subscription plans, or read the general installation process first.
Step-by-step setup
- 1
Check which system your Firestick runs
Open Settings → My Fire TV → About. Most sticks run Fire OS, which is based on Android and accepts Android player apps. Some recent models run Amazon's newer Vega OS, which only installs apps from the Amazon Appstore. Knowing which you have decides the next step.
- 2
Install a player app
Search the Appstore for an IPTV player that accepts Xtream Codes logins and install it. On Fire OS you can also install a player that is not listed in the Appstore by using the Downloader app, after enabling Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → Install unknown apps for Downloader. On Vega OS, use an Appstore player only.
- 3
Add your login
Open the player, choose “Xtream Codes” or “Login with Xtream API”, then type the server URL (including http:// or https:// and any port), your username and your password. All three are case-sensitive. Give the profile any name you like.
- 4
Wait for the first sync
The player downloads the channel list, the film and series catalogue and the TV guide. On a Firestick this first sync can take a few minutes. Leave the screen on until it finishes.
- 5
Set the guide time and test
If programme times look wrong, set the time zone or EPG offset in the player's settings. Then open a few channels in different categories before you build your favourites list.
Common problems on this device
“Developer Options” is missing
On current Fire OS versions the menu is hidden. Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About and press Select on the device name seven times; Developer Options then appears in the previous menu.
The stick is out of storage
Base Firesticks have 8 GB, much of it used by the system. Remove apps you don't use and clear the cache of the ones you keep (Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications).
Playback stutters on Wi-Fi
A stick tucked behind a TV sits in a poor spot for Wi-Fi. Use the short HDMI extender that came in the box to move it clear of the panel, or switch to the Ethernet adapter.
Settings worth changing
Match frame rate
Settings → Display & Sounds → Display → Match Original Frame Rate reduces judder on 50 Hz European channels and 60 Hz North American ones.
Turn off background data hogs
Settings → Preferences → Data Monitoring and Featured Content let you stop autoplaying previews that compete with your stream for bandwidth.

Questions about this device
Do I need a 4K Firestick?
Only if you have a 4K TV and want 4K streams. The standard stick outputs up to 1080p. The 4K models also have faster processors and newer Wi-Fi, which helps large channel lists load more quickly.
Can I use the same login on my Firestick and my phone?
Yes, you can add the login to several devices. How many can play at the same moment depends on the number of connections in your plan.
Is sideloading with Downloader safe?
Downloader itself is a legitimate Appstore app. The risk is in what you download: only install player apps from the developer's own website, and never enter your login into an app you do not recognise.
